It's a little lame to have a Saturday snow day when you know that if it was during the week your husband would have had the day off but we made the best of it. And by "we" I mean "Chris" who was outside for four hours straight with various children coming and going.
Please note that the children are all wearing snow pants. Interestingly February is apparently much too late to actually buy snow pants in a regular store--I tried Walmart hoping to grab some on clearance and there was nothing. They had already turned the whole store over to Spring, including the baby section where I could have bought Margaret all the sundresses and shorts she could ever want but there was not a long sleeved onesie to be found. So to recap, now that it's actually snowing and most definitely still winter there are no winter clothes left to purchase. There are plenty of bathing suits though.
Chris found these (after a hot tip from a colleague) at the nearby Columbia outlet where there were still a few pieces left in the clearance section. Catastrophe averted.
So the boys were warmer as they went sledding at pretty much the best sledding hill ever. According to Chris when he was on the sled too they were getting air going down those bumps. I'm just glad I wasn't there to witness all the shenanigans.
Even John had fun although, once again, he ended up napping through sledding time.
He tried really hard to get his trike going in the snow and yes, making some sort of bike port on the side of the house is one of our projects for Spring.
And here are some bonus sledding videos, because I can........
It appears that nothing is safe. Now along with constant worries of surprise Christmas tree attacks, I also have to worry about every stool and low lying piece of furniture......
We were at a birthday party this weekend and John Michael was totally showing off. The other moms-of-just-one-baby kept looking at him and asking, "How old is he?" umm....9 months. I tried to reassure them that baby milestones are not a competition and if it made them feel better my boys tend to be early movers and late talkers (which is a great combination if you like your children running pell-mell down the street and not answering your desperate calls to "wait for mommy!") but I'm not sure if it really sunk in.
If David were walking this early I would have been obnoxiously proud, but as it stands I'm mostly just tired :)
As exhausted as the idea of one more mobile child makes me though, it's still pretty cute to see such a little guy wobbling down the hall so we tried to capture it for all of you who I'm sure are super interested. I'm afraid we weren't too successful but here's a blurry video of his back as he takes off down the hall for your viewing pleasure.
We've had a busy week of cupcake baking, icing, decorating, devouring and flinging. Chris is now officially in the final year of his twenties and he has started his last year off right--with presents and homemade cards :)
We made Funfetti cupcakes for Chris which was a treat for him as I'm not particularly fond of them and therefore rarely make them which means he never gets to eat them. Anyone familiar with the great Crisco birthday cake disaster of 2010 knows why he can't just make them for himself :)
I don't know why there is always at least one shirtless male at the dinner table at our house....maybe I should just be thankful for the laundry they're saving me and not worry about the manners?
David's birthday card to Daddy--with a little spelling help from Mommy.
Henry really liked the cupcakes....
I mean really liked them....of course this fun back and forth with the cupcake on the fork ended with said cupcake being flung off the fork and landing smack in my face--I don't know how but I really didn't see it coming............
The next day we celebrated David's third birthday which was a milestone because I believe it's the first time we didn't just do both birthdays at the same time--he was onto our game.....
He didn't seem to be onto the fact that those cupcakes looked a little familiar though........I'll make him his own cake on years where we aren't planning ridiculous cake filled parties later in the week :)
We made him close his eyes while Daddy brought out his present from us........................
Of course the real excitement came with Grandma and Grandpa Reintjes' gift.......
I thought I'd post a video cofirming the fact that yes, Henry can crawl! He's been scooting around for a while now. Mostly backwards so that he ended up stuck under the sofa. He was also able to miraculously make it to Raleigh's water bowl in seconds if he found himself within a five foot radius of it, but I never actually saw how he was doing that......
David never bothered to crawl, he just sat there until he pulled himself up on the furniture and started walking so it's been fun to watch Henry do this low crawl all over the place!
David has really been hamming it up lately and he loves to entertain Henry...and tip him over and tell me "Henry fall down" with his most innocent look, but that's another post all together. I caught the tail end of this interchange which lasted a good five minutes. David would put the paci in his mouth and then , much to Henry's delight, and with all of the dramatics he could muster he would spit out the paci. Such a good big brother (well except for the tipping over part!).
David loves to "help" feed Henry, Henry doesn't usually mind either until David starts getting a little too forceful with the spoon. It's so sweet to watch them together. Wait for the end and you'll here the "mmmm...delicious!"
David has started singing and it is hilarious! Forgive the jostling camera, he was bouncing on my lap while I was taping him. And yes there are toys everywhere (I swear we pick them all up at least three times a day) and yes I have empty picture frames hanging on the wall....
Some friends of ours, who apparently don't like us as much as we had thought they did :), got David this Tickle Me Elmo toy for Christmas. David hasn't quite made up his mind about it yet....
Last week I attempted a trip to the pumpkin patch with just me and the boys. I don't want to say it was a disaster but if it weren't for a very nice man and his six kids I don't think I would have been able to wheel the pumpkins inside to pay for them while pushing Henry's stroller, all the while making sure David didn't run into the parking lot. This video is right after David picked out all three of our pumpkins for us. Apparently the correct way to choose a pumpkin is to pick it up and throw it as far as you can--and all this time I thought all you had to do was make sure it was round and had a decent stem. I'm not sure where he thinks he's taking the pumpkins. I think he just wanted to pull them wherever he wanted them to be.
David could barely keep his eyes open during lunch today--can you believe that what followed this cute lunch was a two hour battle of wills over whether or not he would be taking an afternoon nap? I can make him stay in his bed, but alas I cannot make him sleep....
