About Me

aka How I Quit Grad School to Have Some Babies.....

Hi!  I'm Cristina....Once upon a time I thought I wanted to be a school psychologist but halfway through grad school I realized that what I really wanted was to be a mom.  You haven't lived until you've sat down with your professors and told them that you want to quit school because you think you want to get pregnant and don't want to waste more money on tuition since you're pretty sure you're not going to go back to work (or in my case start working).  "But you aren't actually pregnant?" they will ask with an incredulous look......okay.......if you want to ruin all hopes of a worthwhile future and career, have fun with that.....

Well, I did have a baby, several babies actually, and I don't miss grad school or that promising career  I do miss having people tell me how smart I am and what a good job I'm doing and having pretty much unlimited time to myself......just a little....but the children's insistence that I'm their "best mom ever" more than makes up for those losses.  Well, most of the time.

I started this blog under duress at the insistence of my sister-in-laws who were scandalized at the lack of pictures I was sharing of the kids, but now I love sharing what we are up to.  Here you will mostly find what we've been doing/making/reading  and pictures of us on our *good* days with the occasional deep thought sprinkled here and there as they come.  I like to look back over the archives and feel like I'm not a total mom failure so I generally only post happy memories, but trust me, it's not all butterflies and fairy houses over at the Reintjes house.

I'm constantly surprised that anyone who doesn't actually know us in real life would be the least bit interested in what I have to say, but I love to hear from you all!  Leave a comment or send an e-mail (cristinareintjes@gmail.com).

  1. I can relate to your experience! I have a similar story...I wanted to be a Marriage and Family therapist...I made it half way through my graduate program and at 9 months pregnant, I think I knew I wasn't going to come back. Maybe one day. :) But motherhood and writing have kept me so busy and fulfilled that I've never looked back. ;) Looking forward to visiting you on the web!
    Blessings,
    Julia :)

  2. I love this! The night I met my husband, I had just graduated with a degree in computer science and he asked me what my career plans were. I responded - "be a mom" :) I'm looking forward to meeting you this weekend at the conference!!
